April 30, 2005
Welcare World Health Systems has held the groundbreaking ceremony for the launch of 'The City Hospital'' at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) which was done by His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman Dubai Holding. This will be the group's second hospital within the DHCC along with 'The Creek Hospital' and will be positioned as a leading healthcare provider in the region.
Welcare World has entered into an agreement with DHCC for developing 'The City Hospital', a premium 210-bed hospital that will be positioned as a centre of excellence in Cardiology and Orthopaedics. Hospital designers Ellerbe Becket of USA, have designed the hospital and Cansult Limited are the Project Managers.
Inline with DHCC 's vision, Welcare World has acquired the international affiliation of George Washington University Hospital (GWUH), thus ensuring the hospital's commitment to high quality standards of care throughout its planning and operational stages.
The City Hospital will include a four-storey outpatient clinical building, a two-storey diagnostic and treatment podium and a five-storey inpatient bed tower.
Mr. Sunny Varkey, Group Chairman-Varkey Group, comments, “We consider the inclusion of a second Welcare World’s hospital in DHCC as a firm indication of our commitment and belief in excellence in provision of healthcare. Both The City Hospital and The Creek Hospital Dubai will offer high quality patient care in line with our tradition of excellence. We have chosen to include two hospitals at DHCC to better serve the needs of patients and further promote Dubai as the preferred healthcare destination in the region.”
At present, the UAE offers over 7,800 beds in both private and public sectors for a population exceeding four million people. The population growth rate in the UAE far exceeds the regions norms with an average annual increase of 6 percent. To meet the suitable bed per population ratio, more beds are needed and a fully integrated healthcare structure is important to achieve best utilization of these beds.
Mr. C. N. Radhakrishnan, Executive Director of the Varkey Group says. “We are determined to create a new paradigm in healthcare planning with advanced technologies and in collaboration with top-notch institutions in healthcare. If the UAE is to continue leading healthcare standards in the region, we need to further strengthen its infrastructure through the creation of new hospitals”, he added.
The healthcare industry continues to evolve at an ever-increasing rate. This is especially relevant in terms of the application of new technology for better patient care. Research into stem cell technology and investment in biotechnology underlines Dubai’s firm objective to create state-of-the-art research facilities in the UAE.
Mr. Vidur Kaushik, Chief Executive Officer, Welcare World Health Systems, adds,” We are seeing more and more reputable medical institutions investing time and money in the field of research and technology. Dubai is quickly becoming the regions leading location for medical based research and the creation of two WWHS hospitals at DHCC affirms the importance we place in such initiatives."
