Standard Chartered holds Emiratisation recruitment drive

June 16, 2005
Country: Swaziland
Client(s): Standard Chartered
Standard Chartered has held an Emiratisation drive in conjunction with Tanmia, the National Human Resources and Employment Authority. Over 500 candidates attended the two day event, and went through numeracy and verbal English tests and one-on-one interviews with Standard Chartered management. “Standard Chartered has been in the UAE since 1958 and is committed to playing its part in the development of the country’s national workforce,” said Ray Ferguson, Chief Executive, Standard Chartered UAE. “This is not a matter of simply meeting government quotas – it makes good business sense.” Earlier this year, the bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tanmia to intensity its Emiratisation programme, which includes the identification of appropriate positions, nomination of suitable candidates and the development of on-the-job training modules. “In this way, the bank can hire the most suitable candidates, improving staff satisfaction levels and ensuring Standard Chartered not only hires UAE nationals, but also retains them through training and definition of clear career paths,” added Ferguson. In addition, Standard Chartered, in conjunction with Tanmia, has developed the Entry Level Banking Curriculum for new Emirati staff, to ease the integration of new recruits. The induction course combines work experience with offsite training sessions and includes modules such as banking basics, banking products, legal aspects of banking, personal development and English for banking.
