Damas introduces new colorful charms by young UAE duo

April 06, 2006
Country: Swaziland
Client(s): Damas Jewellery LLC
Damas has introduced ‘ghala’, an attractive line of cool, trendy charms, designed by two young UAE national women. ‘Ghala’ can be attached to mobile phones, cameras, bags and key chains to add a dash of style and is for the fun loving, fashion conscious younger generation. It is available in 20 different designs including star, hearts, smileys, coffee kettle and fruits and come in varied shades of green, pink, orange, black and yellow. For Jamila Habisch and Mariyam Al Hashimi, the UAE national students behind the groovy designs, it is their long cherished dream of making a career in jewellery design come true. Speaking on ‘ghala, Tawhid Abdullah, Managing Director of Damas said, “We were very impressed with the jewellery that Jamila and Mariyam designed as a hobby, so we asked them to come up with a creative way of using colourful beads. And the result is ‘ghala’, a range of stylish charms for the young and fashionable.” Jamila and Mariyam started designing jewellery by doing custom made pieces for friends and family and later for independent jewellery houses in Italy. “When Damas asked us to come up with a new idea to use jewellery beads, we thought of creating something that will appeal to the youth and hit on the idea of cool add-ons that enhance the style of accessories, “said Jamila Habisch. So far the young duo has created 2000 pieces of ‘ghala’. “Charms reflect one’s personality and ‘ghala’ is especially designed for those full of life and in the forefront of fashion,” added Mariyam Al Hashimi. Jamila and Mariyam are students of Dubai Women’s College and are enrolled for an Advanced Diploma in Jewellery Business Management, a specialized course set up in association with Damas and Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders. “Ghala is a testimony to the creativity and potential of the UAE national youth and what they are capable of doing if given the right opportunity and necessary guidance. Jewellery design is a great career option and we hope more UAE youth will consider taking it up,” added Abdullah.
