Qtel links up with Commercialbank Qatar Masters

January 16, 2007
Country: Norway
Client(s): Qtel , Commercialbank
With less than two weeks until the start of the 10th Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Qatar’s commercial community continues to throw its weight behind the tournament with Qatar Telecom (Qtel) the latest company to sign up for the $2.2 million event. As Qatar’s exclusive telecommunications provider, Qtel’s involvement will help broadcasters and media service the global market and ensure coverage of the PGA European Tour and Asian Tour-sanctioned event is bigger than ever before. Qtel’s commitment to the tournament – following on from its total support of the 15th Asian Games – has been warmly welcomed by Commercialbank Group CEO Andrew Stevens. “With Qtel on board we are confident we will be able to deliver a world-class service to the journalists, photographers and broadcasters reporting from the Commercialbank Qatar Masters,” he said. “They have again shown their commitment to Qatar’s ambition of being the sporting centre of the region and their ongoing support for that ambition should be applauded.” Buoyed by the success of their involvement in the Asian Games, Qtel believes the Commercialbank Qatar Masters is yet another first-class showcase of what the State has to offer both technically and as a host of major sporting occasions. "Qtel is a strong supporter of sport in Qatar,” said Jassim Fakhroo, Qtel's Executive Director for Group Communications. “We provide sponsorships across a wide spectrum of sporting activities including tennis, football and of course golf. Indeed, we have been delighted to support the Commercialbank Qatar Masters since it began here in Qatar. “Recently we were a Prestige Partner and the Official Telecoms provider to the 15th Asian Games here in Doha, and delivered what the organisers and international broadcasters described as a 'glitch-free telecommunications service'. We are proud to be associated with the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and what we are sure will be an outstanding and successful event." The 2007 Commercialbank Qatar Masters will see a field of 120 golfers – including household names such as Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Chris DiMarco – in action at the Doha Golf Club.
