Sharjah Economic Development Department’s General Manager H.E Ali Bin Salem Al Mahmoud reaffirmed that one of SEDD’s key tasks is to actively stop the commercial fraud and piracy phenomenon in a bid to maintain the integrity of local markets and their reputation globally and to gain the trust of producers, traders and consumers.
The SEDD’s Commercial Prevention Section has been actively seeking to take in hand the complaints filed by consumers, traders or importers. The section assesses all complaints and gives directions to inspectors to proceed immediately to the infringer’s premises. Any counterfeit product found in the premises is seized with the appropriate legal action taken immediately. Infringers are generally fined and the goods confiscated are destroyed.
The department has recently destroyed quantities of counterfeit goods that included 679 auto spare parts, 256 air fresheners, 610 perfumes, 1031 electrical appliances spare parts, 160 items of sporting equipment, a significant amount of industrial equipment and other merchandise.
