LSE explores partnership with Doha stock market

March 10, 2008
Country: Norway
Client(s):
The London Stock Exchange is in talks with the Qatari Investment Authority about a potential partnership with the Doha stock market, an LSE spokesman confirmed on Monday. "We are still exploring with Qatar how we could help them to develop their market," a spokesman told AFP, adding that negotiations were ongoing. The state-linked QIA owns 15 percent of LSE stock, while Emirates-based Borse Dubai owns 20 percent. Both groups saw their stakes diluted after the London exchange sealed a takeover of Italy's Borsa Italiana. The spokesman added that the LSE had a "good relationship" with Borse Dubai. "In the beginning there was some uncertainty, but since (then) they said that they would remain a long term shareholder," he added.
