Dubai World, one of the world’s biggest holding companies, reiterated its commitment to the economic development of the UAE, and Dubai in particular, at a conference recently hosted by Sharjah Women’s College, part of Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology.
The annual Business Conference on “E3 – Energising the Emirati Economy,” which was organised by the Business Students of Sharjah Women’s College at the Sharjah Higher Colleges Auditorium on Nov.19, examined the UAE industries and projects capable of enhancing economic development and standard of living in the country.
In a speech on the role of semi government sector in developing the UAE, Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director of Dubai Trade, the end-to-end-online service provider and business facilitator under Dubai World, highlighted the Group’s multi-sector operations.
Al Bastaki stressed Dubai World’s role in energising the economy in key investment sectors, noting that this was achieved not only by focusing on development in the UAE, but also by exporting locally developed talent and expertise around the world. The speech-cum-presentation centred on Dubai World’s master-planned expansion programmes at home and abroad, which have made the Group one of the main pillars of Dubai’s and the UAE’s economic growth.
Ged Ryan, Associated Director of Sharjah HCT, opened the conference, which was attended by over 700 participants from HCT colleges across the UAE. Speakers and other dignitaries from various areas, including government departments, construction and human resources, took part in the conference. Other speakers included Faisal Al Nuaimi, Assistant CEO of Emirates Post, Angus McFarlane, Regional Technical Director of Hyder Consulting, and Scott Latham, Regional Director of Clarendon Parker Manpower Middle East.
A video presentation on the dramatic changes the UAE has gone through over the past decades attracted wide interest among the participants. Students made the best of the opportunity to interact with the leaders from the business community and discuss with them issues related to the development of the country’s economy.
Fatima Ibrahim Hassan, Business management Higher Diploma student, said the conference was an inspiring experience because it presented new information on the country’s developments. Mariam Yousif, another Business Management Higher Diploma student, shared this view, adding that the conference was excellently organised and that the video presentation was fascinating. Dubai World has been actively supporting initiatives launched by Higher Colleges of Technology that are aimed at spreading awareness about the country’s economic and leadership vision among students.
The conference was part of HCT’s programmes to provide students with out-of-classroom opportunities to achieve planning and networking skills as well as to gain personal confidence and pride in their college. The conference was sponsored by Dubai World, PepsiCo International and al alali. The conference theme was put to music by two SHCT students - Abdulla Ibrahim and Abdulrahman Hussain. The programme also included poetry recitation by Mira Saeed and Mohammed Anwar.
