Heriot-Watt Launches new Fashion Degree Programmes at its Dubai campus

March 12, 2009
Country: Swaziland
Client(s):
Heriot-Watt University, a British institution renowned for its academic excellence and commitment to delivering professionally relevant programmes, has launched degree programmes from its world-renowned School of Textiles and Design at its Dubai Campus. Two dynamic fashion courses will now be offered at the campus including Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing and Retailing, both commencing in September 2009.

The School of Textiles and Design has established a reputation as one of the world’s leading design institutions, and has been producing talented, cutting-edge fashion designers since it was launched in 1883. Today, a number of leading designers have been named as honorary gradates and actively support the school, including Vivienne Westwood, Jasper Conran and Zandra Rhodes.

The two new degree programmes will be taught at the University’s Dubai campus in International Academic City and will enable students to experience a broad knowledge of the fashion industry whilst undertaking highly relevant specialist studies. The programmes aim to provide graduates with a developed and clear understanding of their individual identity as fashion industry professionals.

Speaking about the new BA (Hons) Undergraduate Fashion courses, Professor Brian Smart, a Deputy Principal of the University and Executive Dean and Head of the Dubai Campus, said, “We at Heriot-Watt University recognise the importance of nurturing homegrown fashion talent and are delighted to be able to offer both Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing and Retailing degree programmes here at our Dubai campus. We look forward to contributing to the fashion industry in the region, sharing our international expertise and providing students with excellent career opportunities.”

Applications are now being accepted for the new fashion degree programmes for the September 2009 intake. Prospective students can call HWU on 04 361 6999 or email dubaienquiries@hw.ac.uk to talk to the Admissions team and to find out about scholarships available.

Heriot-Watt University was the first international university to open its doors in Dubai International Academic City in 2005, and is Scotland’s most international academic institution, with one third of its students on campus in Scotland being from outside of the UK, Many additional students are studying with institutional partners around the world for Heriot-Watt University degrees. The Dubai Campus is, however, the only foreign campus operated by the University, with the academic process being wholly owned and delivered by the University.

Heriot Watt’s Dubai Campus has grown from strength to strength over the past three years, and is expected to reach over 2,000 students as the University’s reputation grows in the Middle East region as the University of choice for high quality UK education.
