Ralph Tabberer, top UK Schools Leader joins GEMS Education
March 12, 2009
Ralph Tabberer, most recently Director General of Schools at the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in England, is joining GEMS Education, the Dubai-based group that manages a growing network of 26 high quality schools in the UAE and nearly 74 around the world.
From the Dubai office, Ralph will take up the post of Chief Schools Officer for GEMS MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia) in April 2009. He will be responsible for overseeing educational standards in all GEMS Schools, which teach English, Indian, American and European IB curricula. He will also develop the education strategy for GEMS with an emphasis on curriculum development, teacher professional development, and tracking pupil achievement.
Confirming his appointment, Ralph said: “I am really excited at the prospect of developing excellent schools in places like Dubai, India, Egypt and indeed in the whole of the MENASA region. It would also be good to work with the governments in the regions through GEMS Schools Improvement Partnership (SIP) to raise standards of state schools. It is a great opportunity to use the knowledge and experience I have gained for the benefit of young people in developing countries.”
Sunny Varkey, Founder and Chairman of GEMS Education, said: “We are delighted that Ralph Tabberer is joining us. As GEMS expands its network across the world, he will help us ensure that high standards are maintained in all our schools. Also at a time when education is changing rapidly, he will bring innovation and creativity to our schools operations.”
