PIPS Technology joins top international tech companies at Dubai Airport Free Zone

PIPS Technology, an industry leader in the development and manufacture of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems has joined a long list of prestigious international companies that have set up their headquarters at the Dubai Airport Free Zone.

Spike, a PIPS innovative ANPR camera was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2005 in the innovative category. Spike provides customers with a unique solution which dramatically reduces installation and operations costs.

Jamil Al-Asfar Business Development Manager-Middle East of PIPS Technology (Branch), said PIPS, which opened recently at the Free Zone operates as a marketing and sales office. “PIPS Technology started operating in the region since four years back with a number of projects in UAE, KSA, Qatar and Kuwait.”

“One of our major projects in the UAE is at Al Dhafra Airbase in Abu Dhabi where our ANPR system is integrated with a third party under vehicle surveillance system, in the Gulf; we have Qatar Petroleum, and other VIP sites in KSA. Worldwide we have projects concerning toll enforcement and congestion charges for example London Congestion charges, toll enforcement in California, Sydney, Spain and Holland.”

In the Middle East, the company has a total of 30 cameras in operation. In the UAE and the Middle East, PIPS plan is to be the number one supplier of ANPR solutions in the region as we are in USA and Europe, and having a branch in UAE will give us a direct reach to the promising and highly developed market in the region.

Mr. Al Asfar added: “We had already initiated talks with Police departments in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and we will be holding demonstrations with Police departments in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.”

He said the feedback and cooperation we are receiving is “quite good, and we are hoping to increase this relation in order to utilize our ANPR products competitive advantage for the benefits of homeland security.”

Commenting on the company’s status during the financial crisis Mr. Al Asfar said: “Due to the nature of PIPS Technology’s business we have yet to be affected by the current economic downturn”

He explained: “Most of their customers have their budgets set at the beginning of the financial year so our forecasted orders have not been affected.”
