Dubai Palm Monorail officially open

Dubai’s Palm Monorail, a $381-million project which will have trains running the length of Palm Jumeirah, opened on Tuesday.

The system, which will initially carry 2,400 passengers per hour in four separate trains, was originally due to open last month but was delayed.

Nakheel has plans to ultimately connect the service to the Dubai Metro after the introduction of Road and Transport Authority's Al Sufouh tramline, which will offer direct links to Dubai Airport.

A media tour will take place on Wednesday with journalists being among the first to use the service.
