Panic swept through an Omani village as the aftershock of an earthquake shook the ground in the early hours of Saturday morning.
"The tremors were measured at 4.9 on the Richter scale but since the epicentre was almost 80 kilometres away from the shoreline the tremors did not impact much on the shores," said Eisa al-Hussain, director of seismology Centre at Sultan Qaboos University.
There was no damage caused by the tremors in the Omani territory of Madha, which is surrounded by the UAE, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Sunday.
The incident happened at about 2.45 a.m. on Saturday. Madha is about 350 kilometres north of Muscat.
