BMW Group said sales of used cars in the Middle East increased by 45 percent in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2008 at a time the industry is seeing dwindling new car sales.
Dubai was the top market for the used cars sold under its sub-brand Prime Selection followed by Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.
The company sold about 957 vehicles in eight markets in the Middle East.
"Given the current economic climate, we see huge potential to grow these numbers further," said James Crichton, sales and marketing director at BMW Group Middle East.
Cars sales have suffered in the Gulf this year with banks becoming reluctant to lend to buyers of new vehicles.
According to forecasts in the early part of the year, car sales across the UAE were down about 40 percent.
