Eco-friendly buses roam Dubai streets

August 30, 2009
Country: UAE
Client(s):

The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has recently launched a modern fleet of environment-friendly buses. Building on this initiative, RTA is launching an awareness campaign that highlights the benefits of using public transportation, and its impact on mitigating pollution.

All new buses are fitted with Euro IV engines that use the one world’s most eco-friendly fuel there is. This fuel has a sulphur content of only 50 PPM (parts per million), compared to normal fuel that has a sulphur content of 500 PPM.

Through this campaign, RTA aims to stress that using public transportation not only eases traffic congestion, but also reduces environmental pollution. This is evident by the fact that the capacity of one bus is equal to that of 40 cars; which is why using buses can reduce the number of cars on the streets, as well as reduce noise pollution; a serious concern in modern cities.

On the other hand, statistics show that 40 cars emit 230,000 kg of CO2 per year, while one bus emits only 3,200 kg of CO2 per year.
