Qatar's Consumer Price Index dropped 0.8 percent in August and 3.6 percent since January 2009 mainly due to a decline in rents, Doha-based Al Arab daily reported on Thursday.
Inflation in the world's largest exporter of natural gas began a downtrend since early 2009 and fell 0.3 percent in July after recording high levels in 2008 that hit sometimes 17 percent, the paper reported citing the Qatar Statistical Authority.
Rents dropped 0.8 percent in July and 1.7 percent in August with the steepest fall occurring in apartment rents which plunged 17 percent since January 2009, the daily added.
