The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) hosted a group of Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) graduates from the S P Jain Center of Management, Dubai-Singapore, to introduce them to sector-specific research programs in logistics.
The DED initiative is part of its continuing support of the city’s logistics sector, which needs qualified professionals to ensure future growth. The research programs, implemented by S P Jain students as part of the EMBA curriculum, will be relevant to current sector needs.
The 12-member student group, led by Dr Dhrupad Mathur, Director of the Industry Interface Program for S P Jain, was received by HE Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of the DED and Mr David Harris, Director for Logistics of the Foreign Investment Office, an agency of the DED.
“This initiative is part of DED’s sustained efforts to undertake concerted approaches for developing the logistics sector, which is one of the key players for future growth and improvement, and also to supporting the development of skilled resources for the future,” said His Excellency Mr Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of the Department of Economic Development.
“The leadership of Dubai is committed to realizing its vision of transforming the emirate into a well-diversified economy. Dubai, indeed, has developed itself into a major commercial center within a short period of time,” said Mr Al Qamzi. “These initiatives with the private sector will play a key role in the Government of Dubai’s endeavor to address the opportunities and challenges facing the business community especially, in logistics.”
The visiting delegation and DED members exchanged views on how to enhance the quality standards of the logistics industry. A number of issues related to developing the logistics industry and ways to raise the standard of those working in the field were addressed during the meeting.
“The need for building relationships with key education providers is an important aspect to ensure education and industry requirements meets the skill gaps in the sector,” said Mr Harris.
He added, “DED will initiate proactive measures to interact with those concerned in the logistics industry to enhance business efficiency. Lack of qualified resources is one of the main concerns in the logistics sector, and this collaboration is part of many others to address the requirements of the industry to support its growth.”
“Building skills in the sector will help drive productivity through the whole supply chain and only by having skilled resources we can maintain Dubai’s competitive advantages,” said Mr Harris.
