Perfect mastery of one's art, great patience and passion are some of the qualities essential for a skipper and a watchmaking craftsman to accomplish their job. These values are the cornerstone of Girard-Perregaux's commitment as official partner of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud sailing regatta. The regatta brings together hundreds of renowned sailors from around the world.
To celebrate its commitment to the world of sailing, Girard-Perregaux presents a new watch tailored to nautical activities: the Laureato Bol d’Or Mirabaud chronograph. Presenting sponsor of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud, Girard-Perregaux has once again released a watch dedicated to the biggest inland regatta in Europe.
Particularly suited to nautical activities, the Laureato is bedecked for the occasion with rubber on its bezel, its crown and its pushers. Its case is forged from titanium, a light metal well known to sailors for its corrosion and impact resistance. This chronograph has been adapted to competition. Its flyback function is very useful for getting accurate different racing time readings.
In addition, the chronograph's central hand provides a precise countdown for the crucial ten minutes preceding the start of regattas: this time is clearly highlighted in the zone between 12 and 2 o'clock, with the first five minutes indicated in blue and the following five minutes (corresponding to the pre-start phase) indicated in red.
Girard-perregaux and the bol d’or mirabaud
Girard-Perregaux's commitment to the field of sailing is rooted in history. Over the centuries, the seafaring and watchmaking trades have been bound by various links. In the 18th Century, the watchmaker John Harrison distinguished himself with the invention of his marine chronometers. In providing a practical and feasible solution to the problem of determining the longitude of a vessel at sea, he created a strong link between seafaring and watchmaking.
The partnership between Girard-Perregaux and the Bol d’Or Mirabaud asserts a philosophy. The patience, talents and passion associated with Fine Watchmaking, a field where Girard-Perregaux excels, are similar properties to those required to achieve excellence in the seafaring trades.
This sailing competition represents values dear to Girard-Perregaux: it combines human skills with the best technologies, bringing together emotion and a constant quest for performance.
The girard-perregaux manufacture
Few names in the rarefied world of Swiss “Haute Horlogerie” are as evocative and rich in history as Girard-Perregaux. The activities of our company can be traced as far back as 1791, giving us more than two centuries of heritage and making us what we are today.
Some of the most innovative designs and movements first created by Constant Girard in the 19th Century, like the Tourbillon with three gold Bridges, are still being made today, though with some modifications. It is extremely rare for the form and function of an object to remain unchanged for so long.
Girard-Perregaux has always been committed to innovation. The Manufacture has registered more than eighty patents in the field of watchmaking and re-invests a good part of its revenue in research and development. R&D is what keeps our products and Brand relevant and inspires us to continue improving what we do in an endless quest for excellence.
Furthermore, Girard-Perregaux is one of the few remaining genuine Swiss watch Manufactures (the word comes from the Latin for “made by hand”). Our definition of a Manufacture is a company that takes a holistic approach to watchmaking, designing, creating, developing and producing both the external components of a watch and its core, the movement.
For our clients, this means that our integrated, value-added approach is fundamental in building an authentic product stamped with its own genuine identity rather than a simple assembly of components. Girard-Perregaux has an extensive portfolio of sophisticated movements, from Haute Horlogerie and its complications to mechanical and quartz.
Girard-Perregaux’s unique design approach is another characteristic that sets it apart from the competition. Our watches are not merely reproductions of our past successes, but are developed with a different, modern outlook so that the company’s 200-year heritage is reflected in the application of the latest technology. This is why our collection is constantly evolving and why Girard-Perregaux’s unique designs are often awarded prizes at international watch competitions.
