Qatar's economy set to grow 12 pct in 2009

BEIRUT - Qatar's economy is expected to grow 12% in 2009, Doha-based Asharq daily reports Monday citing Khalid Al Attiyah, the country's Acting Minister of Business and Trade and Minister of State for International Cooperation.

Attiyah, who met Sunday a Croatian business delegation, asked for the opening of a Croatian trade office in his country, the paper reports.

The delegation, which represents 35 Croatian companies and which is seeking investment opportunities in Qatar, proposed, among other things, boosting bilateral trade and eliminating the need for between the two countries, the daily adds.

The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries was $87.56 million in the first eight months of 2009, Asharq reports.
