Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM), in cooperation with the Traffic Department of the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, has started construction work to improve the main detour road in Tourist Club Area. Opened in early 2009 as part of the Salam Street and Eastern Ring Road Projects, the detour road facilitates construction work on the main tunnel with minimal traffic congestion.
The ongoing work includes the expansion of the street parallel to Abu Dhabi Mall Road, starting from the traffic signal at the intersection of Ras Al Khaimah Bank toward the Naval Base. This will enable the street to accommodate the conversion of traffic coming from Al Meena and the City Center. Leading up to its intersection with Al Falah Street, Al Salam Street will be closed in the area across from Abu Dhabi Municipality with the exception of one lane to serve the local area. Street No. 9 will allow access to Abu Dhabi Mall from the left and will also lead towards Al Meena. The official date of the commencement of construction work on the new detour will be announced later this month.
ADM is keen on keeping construction work on schedule as the project is slated for completion in stages starting from early next year.
Al Salam Street Projects will help Abu Dhabi stand out as one of the premier capitals in the world through the development of modern road infrastructure and facilities. In line with Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, the projects will pave the way for the construction of bridges and tunnels to maintain a non-stop flow of traffic from the Sheikh Zayed Bridge until the Mina Zayed area, allowing up to 6,000 vehicles per hour and dramatically reducing the travel time on the road.
ADM emphasizes the importance of patience and cooperation from both motorists and residents in the success of the project. Once finished, Al Salam Street Projects are expected to boost the economic and social advancement of the capital.
