Thank you for your answer. I don't know then if it is worth to mention (might be even in the article) that is was in fact a lapsus by Mr Gore.

If you need a confirmation for this I can give you the e-mail address of someone in Mr. Gore's staff. He wanted to say "summer" but ... things happen.

I double checked with someone of Al Gore's staff. They confirm what I said above, i.e. that only summer ice makes sense and they continue to claim that this is what he really said, i.e. summer ice. Could you please (I know, a bit repetitive) check on tape again, and that it is really Arctic winter sea ice he is talking about. Thanks.

Yes, we checked the tape. This is exactly what Mr Gore said.

Ok, my fault. My last question is already clarified. You clearly write "each one leads to 6-7 meter sea level rise". That are the correct numbers. Thanks again

Thank you for your answer. In this case "winter month" is of course completely wrong and I assume a lapsus. If anything one could expect disappearance in summer month, most scientists think that this will be in 60-70 years. Another question (sorry to be so nitpicking): Did Gore say Melting of Greenland AND Westantarctica made 6-7 Meter? Best estimate would give rather the double of this number.

Please check also if Gore really said "Antarctica will be ice free in 5-10 years during WINTER MONTHS". The winter MONTHS things doesn't make any sense either.

EDITOR'S COMMENTYes, we have checked our tape of that recording - and he did indeed say during Winter months..."

According to the AMSR-E Arctic sea ice extent figures, the annual variation is (roughly) 14 million square Km in mid winter to 5 million square Km in mid summer.

Hence, the natural change EVERY YEAR is around 65% with no subsequent rise of metres of sea level, nor the same drop of sea level in the winter.

When are we going to see some honest repudiation of the figures espoused by the likes of Gore (he does not deserve the Mr honorific) AT THE SAME TIME as the reports of his claims.

Reporters such as Mr Shakir Husain do themselves no favours by not questioning Gore's obvious alarmist rhetoric. Ask him how far above sea level his beach-front residence is?

The figure 67 meters is if all land-based polar ice were to melt -- Antarctica, Greenland, etc. Not likely any time soon. If just all the ARCTIC ice melted, it is sea-based anyway, and would not at all raise sea levels, but it would lead to other problems.

CORRECTION: Al Gore said 6 to 7 meters in his speech. We reported that as 67 meters. We have now rectified this in the copy.

Al Gore says that 40% of the North Pole Ice Cap ahs already gone. And if it all melts away the sea level will rise 67 meters! ACCORDING TO THIS THE SEA LEVEL OUGHT TO HAVE RISEN BY 27 METERS (40% OF 67 METERS) BY NOW!!!!

Mr Gore is scaremongering people just to speed up his carbon trade business.

Even IPCC predicts only a sea level rise between 15 to 60 cm in the next 100 years. And most probably sea level is not rising at all at this moment.

Natural variability and not anthropogenic CO2 is what rules the climate of the world.

Shame on Mr. Gore.
