DUBAI - A nine-year-old girl has died of swine flu in Egypt, bringing the country’s death toll to five, the daily Egyptian Gazette reported on Sunday. The girl was admitted to hospital in the Helwan governorate south of Cairo on Thursday and died two days later, the newspaper reported, citing the Health Ministry.
The death comes a day after a 36-year-old Egyptian woman from the coastal city of Ismailia died from the virus.
The newspaper said Egypt has received its first batch of the swine flu vaccine, which will be given to pilgrims going to Saudi Arabia to perform Haj.
Millions of Muslims will descend on Saudi’s holy cities of Mecca and Medina in the coming weeks for the annual Haj pilgrimage and countries are concerned about pilgrims returning infected with the virus.
