du first in UAE to launch Facebook® Mobile Texts for users

November 03, 2009
Country: UAE
Client(s): Facebook Inc

du has become the first UAE telecom provider to bring Facebook® Mobile Texts to its users, giving them easy access to the wide range of unique communication options offered by Facebook®. With Facebook® Mobile Texts, du subscribers can provide status updates, and send messages, pokes, wall posts and friend requests via SMS, as well as post pictures and videos via MMS. Users can also sign up to receive free SMS notifications from Facebook®, including new message alerts and friends’ status updates, according to their preferences. Best of all, there are no sign-up charges for using Facebook® Mobile Texts, which is currently only available to du subscribers.

“Many UAE residents use Facebook to stay connected, share information and communicate in a fun, personalised way, and more people are signing up every day. In response to customer needs, we are introducing Facebook Mobile Texts so that our mobile users can enjoy all the benefits of Facebook wherever they are, at any time,” said Farid Faraidooni, EVP Commercial, du. “Facebook Mobile Texts is accessible to people with or without 3G handsets, helping all our customers connect with their families and friends faster and easier than ever before.”

Customised communication on-the-go:

Facebook® Mobile Texts will send free SMS notifications to customers if they are poked or if they receive a message, a note on their Wall, a friend request, a photo tag identification request, a photo comment or a note comment. Users can specify the type and frequency of notifications they would like to receive and make changes to their preferences at any time online.

Facebook’s mobile sites and applications, Facebook® Mobile Texts allow users to share and connect with those that matter to them wherever they are and from whatever device they choose.

Keeping in touch for less:

There are no sign-up charges for using Facebook® Mobile Texts on a du mobile; SMS and MMS to Facebook are subject to du’s standard national rates, as are MMS to email. Likewise, if subscribers choose to browse the internet from their mobile and enjoy Facebook® as they would from their computer, du’s standard mobile internet rates apply. Data bundles from du represent the best value for those who frequently surf on their mobile phones.
