I agree with Khalid, employers suffer more than employees.

I think countries (India, Pakistan, SRilanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Philippines) are equally responsible for the plight of workers. Most of Arab people are corrupt minded. The travel agents of these countries also responsible. The governments of these countries should implement strict law to avoid any breach of contract. First all respective govt and embassies/consulates of Arab countries should take bank guarantee/deposit to protect the rights of worker. Implementing this condition surely drop the violation of human rights and other ill practices doing by the employers in these countries.

Bravo! I wish that all foreign missions have the same outlook for all their citizens working abroad. I hope they sit up and take note of what the Indonesian government is doing for its people working over seas.

The employers in the GCC should start looking after their employees also as the news will spread and guess what it is going to get increasingly more difficult to get new staff. New staff is going to get hard to come by and if you treat them badly the word will spread and the employers will start getting a reputation. In fact I think it is high time that employers get named and shamed for transgressions towards their employees.

Anyway that is my 10 fils worth...

Well, with all the respect of this action, but not all people are the same, i know many people and im one of them who is treating Indonesian maid like if they are one of the family members, yet some of these maid really does not deserve what we are doing for them, imagine a maid living in a house for 6 years and her boss providing her with everything she needs and not even letting her paying one fils from her own salary, and after all this time, he discover that she is using his nice good hearted personality to bring men while he and his wife at work to have sex with them. Of course that was proved after he fixed cameras at home. I agree that they are human and i myself does not respect any one who treat his or her maid without respect but believe me guys that sometimes we are the victims not them. and this is clear because even offices who brings them are faking their personal details. Anyway, i hope that we all agreed that no body is perfect.

I think it's the right thing to do. I also dis-agree with some of the previous comments about the labour conditions in UAE where they mixed the construction labour with housemaids who are the main Indonesian labour in UAE. In general they are treated well, having same quality of food, beds and even travelling with the families abroad for sight-seeing and vacation without violating their right to have their own annual vacation with ticket paid and some pocket money. So, Don't judge in general all UAE community, as our father Sheikh Zayed taught us well how treat each and every human kind with tender and tolerance. Peace be upon You.

I totally agree with the Indonesian government's act. It's time to push for labor laws in these countries. Those laborers should be respected and those who mistreat them should be punished.

This action was over due...finally Asian govts are standing up for welfare!!!!!! I personally know companies here who give 1 off in a month...and embarrassing wages!!! Labour complaints made by employees have no impact......The UAE needs 2 do some soul searching.

Most of the Indonesians working in Middle East are house maids and since they are young and looking very good, they were being sexually abused by their employees. Hence, this ban is most welcome.
