Beijing, Cartier exhibition: Christine Lagarde & Bernard Fornas in the Forbidden City

Accompanied by Bernard Fornas, Chairman and CEO of Cartier, Christine Lagarde, French Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment, visited the “Cartier Treasures – King of Jewellers, Jewellers to Kings” exhibition on Wednesday, 28th October in Beijing’s Forbidden City.

This visit enabled the guests to discover the jewellers’ original creations, inspired by China and elsewhere.The pieces displayed at the exhibition were selected by the curators of the Palace Museum in celebration of over 160 years of expertise, skill and creativity and in recognition of Cartier’s cultural and artistic input, as well as its contribution to the heritage of the decorative arts. This unique event has attracted over 160,000 visitors since it was opened to the general public on 5th September 2009*. This figure continues to rise steadily and, on Sunday, 18th October, culminated in a new record of 10,000 visitors registered in a single day.

*A real cultural event, the highly prestigious ''Cartier Treasures – King of Jewellers, Jewellers to Kings" exhibition at the Palace Museum in Beijing was inaugurated on Friday, 4th September 2009 in the presence of Bernard Fornas, Chairman & CEO of Cartier, Nigel Luk, Managing Director of Cartier Far East, Zhao Shao Hua, Deputy Minister for Culture, Zheng Xin Miao, Director of the Palace Museum and Hervé Ladsous, Ambassador of France in China, as well as several other well-known figures, including the actors Shu Qi and Tony Leung.
The exhibition closes officially on 22nd November 2009.
