RIYADH, November 19, 2009 (AFP) - A Saudi man was executed on Thursday near Riyadh after being convicted of murdering his sister, the interior ministry announced.The ministry, in a statement carried by the official SPA agency, did not give details on the murder or the motivations of the killer, Mourif al-Ribai.
His beheading in the Kharj region of Riyadh brought to 64 the number of executions carried out in the kingdom so far this year, according to an AFP count.
Under the strict version of Islamic sharia law enforced in Saudi Arabia, the death penalty can be imposed for rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking.
Last year, Saudi Arabia put 102 people to death.
