Nico Intl. secures AED 90 million FAL energy contract

Topaz subsidiary Nico International has been awarded an AED 90 million contract by FAL Energy, to fabricate and construct an oil storage terminal in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai. FAL Energy, which was launched in 1991 along with FAL Shipping, is headquartered in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates with the operations setup in London and Khorfakkan (U.A.E).

The project involves the fabrication and construction of eight storage tanks and their related interconnecting piping, above and under ground jetty piping. The project also includes the supply of all project equipment, marine and truck loading arms, electrical/mechanical works, civil and structural works, fire protection and installation.

The testing and the pre-commissioning of the terminal will be completed prior to hand-over in March 2008.FAL Energy is a major supplier of bunkers and marine lubes to numerous of the world's renowned ship owners and charterers and already has two storage terminals, located within the U.A.E, which together have a capacity of 600,000 cubic metres.

FAL Energy, part of the FAL Group which has business interests in oil, shipping and energy, was established in 1991 in Sharjah, U.A.E. Its operations setup is centred in London and Khorfakkan (U.A.E). FAL Energy supplies bunkers and marine lubes, to many of the world’s leading ship-owners and charterers.

“This is a major milestone for us in oil storage facility construction and is just recognition of the investment we have made in our business infrastructure throughout the region,” said Fazel Fazelbhoy, General Manager, Nico International

The core business interests of Nico International are Marine engineering and heavy fabrication. During 2005, it acquired the industrial business from Fujairah Marine Services that has enhanced its industrial project management expertise and a track record of successfully completing similar projects. Based in Dubai, currently the company employs more that 1,200 personnel with operations in Fujairah, Sharjah, Salalah, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Nico International was recently honored by the Seatrade Organisation with the Ship Building and Repair Award – 2006 at the prestigious Dubai International Maritime Awards Ceremony.
