The show-stopping Emirates Globe stand, set to take centre stage at this year's Arabian Travel Market, is a hot topic of conversation, even before the doors of the event open in Dubai on May 1st.
The giant spherical structure, 65 metres in circumference, provides a true experiential travel and tourism journey, which is expected to be talked about for years to come.
A total of almost 22,000 labour hours has gone into creating this 3-storey-high stand, spread over 484 square metre footprint and containing more than 23 miles of cabling.
The outside skin of the globe consists of 288 panels. Each panel is individually printed with a small part of the world and together they create one of the largest photographic images of the earth, seen from space, ever printed.
Gerry Ellender, the Managing Director of UK-based designers, The Pulse Group Limited, said: "The design, build and installation of this unique stand has presented a whole series of exceptional challenges. Not only in guaranteeing that a complex design is reproduced without compromise on quality and function. Not only in creating a very large, re-usable structure which is totally portable; but also the logistical demand of making sure that the 100 or so skilled crew from diverse disciplines work together perfectly in a very limited time to build this astonishing stand."
Standing 9.5 metres high, the Emirates Globe will primarily showcase Emirates Hotels and Resorts, the group’s new premier hospitality management division.
Dozens of captivating graphic images and audio visual display screens within a system incorporating 32 computers and 650 individual light fittings are just some of the features that light up Emirates' product portfolio.
At ground floor level, visitors will be able to experience the environment and rooms of the Emirates Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, right down to the actual premium furnishings. In addition, they can grasp the true essence of the planned Emirates Wolgan Valley Hotels and Spa in the Blue Mountains of Australia, supported by models, information and access to Emirates Group websites.
The first floor provides spacious areas for business meetings, bar and catering facilities, media connectivity and graphics. The top floor provides a large VIP area and majlis for hosting guests.
Following a One Continent theme, representing Emirates as a global travel and tourism conglomerate, the stand includes the latest information about new Emirates Hotels and Resorts under development including Emirates Marina Hotel & Residence (opening September 2007 in Dubai), Emirates Green Lakes Serviced Apartments (opening early 2008 in Dubai), and Emirates Park Towers Hotel & Residence – scheduled for completion in 2010, also in Dubai.
On the fringes of the stand, visitors will be able to sample the exquisite facilities in Emirates Airline First Class (available on the Airbus A340-500) in a specially recreated cabin area.
Mike Simon, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications said: "The Emirates Globe is being talked about, even before the exhibition starts. Emirates is extremely proud of our fine-tuned product portfolio and we have every reason to display what we do in the strongest and most visual way. This stand, which has been meticulously crafted by leading designers and technicians is a perfect symbiosis between our corporate requirements and true creativity and engineering."
