Aggreko plc, the global leader in providing temporary power generation and temperature control services, has signed a contract with Qatar Kentz, the engineering and construction services provider, to supply 60 MW of power for the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project in Qatar, the world’s biggest-ever integrated GTL project.

Sponsored by Qatar Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell plc, Pearl GTL is the largest energy project ever undertaken within the borders of Qatar. Upstream, Pearl GTL will produce, transport and process some 1.6 billion cubic feet per day of wellhead gas to produce the equivalent of 120,000 barrels of oil per day in natural gas condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and ethane. Downstream, dry gas will be used as feedstock to produce 140,000 barrels per day of clean, high quality GTL fuels and products.

Aggreko is supplying a “turnkey” power solution providing power to buildings, structures, tents and related facilities. It will also supply the Pearl GTL worker’s accommodation area at Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is expected to house more than 35,000 people.

The equipment has come from the Aggreko headquarters in Jebel Ali. The initial power supply includes 12 MW for construction of the worker’s accommodation area. The remaining 48 MW will be supplied in stages.

“A project of this magnitude requires total commitment and experience. Aggreko’s reputation in providing its clients with turnkey solutions in remote locations made it the preferred choice for the project,” said James Moore, General Manager, Qatar Kentz.

Aggreko invests heavily in developing solutions for its clients with considerations of the unique environments in which they operate. Our team of experienced engineers supported by purpose built equipment enable us to provide tailor made solutions for the project.

The Pearl GTL contract vindicates Aggreko’s policy of investing heavily in developing specific solutions for its clients, particularly in difficult environments. The company’s 24-hour operations will also maximize production capacity for the project.

This is the second contract that Aggreko has been awarded by Kentz. The first contract was in 2001 for the provision of 22 MW in Malaysia.
