The Dubai Summer Surprises Apprenticeship Program is inviting top notch students from more than 18 colleges and universities within the Middle East & North Africa in an expanded version of the internship scheme that started with just two countries – KSA and Kuwait in 2006.
The DSS Apprenticeship 2007 aims at promoting local talent and enhancing the education of the participating students within the field of marketing and business administration. The program brings together the best and brightest students from across the region to participate in the highly successful annual summer fiesta in Dubai and provides students excellent opportunities for training and exposure in marketing and events management through an internship at the Dubai Summer Surprises, one of the biggest tourism success stories of the region, which will take place from June 21st to August 31st 2007.
Last year, Meshal Al Ali from the American University in Kuwait and Basma Sabban from Dar Al Hekma College in Saudi Arabia were chosen as the program’s first batch of interns, following a highly competitive selection process. Both students traveled to Dubai and spent two weeks getting practical training and exposure in marketing and events management during the conduct of DSS 2006.
Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, DSS CEO, said: “This DSS innovative initiative comes in accordance with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to share our acquired knowledge and experience in successful event management with our brethren in neighboring Arab countries, and transfer skills to talented young Arabs across the region”.
Laila Suhail, DSS Executive Project Director, Dubai Summer Surprises, said: “This year’s Apprenticeship Program is bigger and better. We’ve expanded our coverage to more countries in the Middle East and Africa, thus reaching more colleges and universities in our search for the best and the brightest marketing students who will be given an apprenticeship experience of a lifetime,” said
The Apprenticeship Program will have winners from each participating country working in groups to aid key DSS executives in putting together tactics and strategies for next year’s summer fiesta.
Suhail commended the first batch of interns for doing an exceptional job, and contributing creative ideas to give DSS a more regional flavor in 2007. “It is after all, the biggest tourism success story of the region. We want to give students from across the region the opportunity to immerse themselves in marketing and event management’s best practices. As well, we would like them to contribute ideas as to how we can make DSS a more exciting festival for our friends and guests from all around the world,” she added.
The DSS Apprenticeship program has invited region-wide universities to attend from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, & Egypt where the winner will be announced during the first week of June.
