Ibn Battuta Mall, the largest themed mall in the Middle East, has partnered with the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU) to host the “Open Doors. Open Minds” initiative - providing the opportunity for visitors to experience authentic Arabian culture and meet with UAE nationals during the month of Ramadan.

From the 13th of September and following Eid Al Fitr, until 14th October, the SMCCU Communication Majilis will be located in the China Court of Ibn Batuta Mall. Representatives will be available to educate visitors on why Muslims fast, explain the meaning of Ramadan and to discuss the real values behind the holy month of Ramadan.

Commenting on the programme Ibn Battuta Mall will host during Ramadan, Colin Fenton, Mall Manager said: ”We are thrilled to be hosting the SMCCU majlis in the mall. This is the second time that we are joining with SMCCU following huge community interest during Ramadan last year. We hope to give UAE residents and tourists alike a unique insight into the Arabian culture and wholly embrace this opportunity to share customs and experiences from around the world.”

Today Dubai is a modern and cosmopolitan city and the UAE is home for families of over 150 nationalities, each with their own distinctive culture. The SMCCU is under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who saw the need to lower the cultural barriers between families and to help expatriates understand the traditions and customs of the UAE.

As part of the Ibn Battuta Mall Ramadan programme, visitors will also have the opportunity to register for an exclusive invitation to an authentic Iftar dinner, to be hosted by Emirati nationals and held at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding.

Visitors are also invited to register for the UAE National Home visit programme, offering a unique insight to experience the hospitality of an Emirati family in their own homes.

Special mosque tours will take place four days a week at 10am with extra tours planned in the evenings after prayer times. Guests at the mosque are treated to a talk on the UAE Culture and the UAE’s official religion, Islam.

The Communication Majilis will be opened from 10am – 1pm and 2pm -11pm weekdays and 8pm – midnight Thursday and Friday. For reservations or enquiries, please call 050 585 8463, 050 585 8439, 050 585 8693, 050 585 8645 (10am – midnight).
