Some of the world’s greatest swordsman will descend on ASPIRE this month as the Academy hosts the Fifth Qatar Fencing Grand Prix.
The competition – now in its fifth year – will bring an astonishing 133 competitors from 37 countries to ASPIRE between 18th and 20th January as they duel for the respected title.
The Qatar Fencing Federation – under the Presidency of His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani – has promised a raft of financial surprises on top of the already increased prize money for this year. The combined purse is worth over US$30,000.
40 of the world’s top fencers will be amongst the field in the hope of earning points towards their international ranking places.
Now in its third year at ASPIRE, the competition will be broadcast live on Al Jazeera and will be open to public spectators.
The event is just one of the many major sporting events that chose to be hosted at ASPIRE. As well as producing and educating highly talented sports stars and developing health and fitness in Qatari society more generally, ASPIRE’s sports facilities are rated amongst the best in the world: serving as a natural choice for increasing amounts of sporting bodies.
