It was all looking so promising. Jumeirah Primary School (JPS) pupil Megna Kuverji made a flying start to the 7DAYS Fantasy Shares contest, even stealing a march on independent financial advisor Graham Wolverson in the first week. But the stock price of Mashreq Bank, one of the schoolgirl’s share picks, mysteriously dived towards the end of last month, dealing a serious blow to Megna’s title hopes.

The 11-year-old admits to being shell-shocked by last week’s results.  “All my friends were asking me what happened,” she said yesterday, after being forced to miss the school’s swimming gala with a cold - hopefully not a case of the stock market blues. But after the Mashreq drop, Megna can take heart from the news that a similar fate has befallen two of 7DAYS Business Reporter Tom Daly’s picks this week, and one of Graham Wolverson’s.
And Megna’s business acumen means a rousing comeback is far from out of the question. At JPS, she is involved in the Biz Kids group. “We hand-make and sell cards, like birthday cards, then see how much profit we get and donate it to charity,” Megna explained. A new Anita Roddick? Possibly - Megna has yet to make up her mind about a future career, although she rates science as her best subject. Does life as a stockbroker appeal? “That would be nice,” she said.
Khaled Kurdeih, CEO of Mashreq Securities, has rocketed into an early lead, followed by Tom in second position. Graham is in third place, while Chalky the editor’s cat and Megna fight over fourth and fifth positions.  Still, it’s early days yet
