April 30 was the deadline for the application phase for the round 3 of the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teachers, which lasted two months.
Commenting on the outcome of the application phase for this year, Lubna Touqan, Award Executive Director, said, “We received 1,190 applications this year from the 37 Directorates of Education. This number translates into 2.5% of the overall number of teachers eligible for application in the Kingdom, estimated at around 48,000.
This impressive rate is once again equivalent to application rates for other highly-renowned global awards, which range from 1-3%. We are extremely happy with this level of participation and would like to thank all the teachers who have placed their trust in the Award and were keen to be part of this journey to excellence. We are excited to explore their experiences and reveal excellence therein. We also extend our thanks to the Directors of Education, the Award coordinators in the different Directorates of Education, and the Award's ambassadors from 2006 and 2007 for the help they provided in communicating and introducing the Award's message to school principals and teachers and encouraging this number of teachers to participate.”
