Provided by 7DAYS.ae

As the 7DAYS Fantasy Shares contest enters its second month, we already have a runaway leader in Khaled Kurdeih, the CEO of Mashreq Securities, while the Editor’s Cat is languishing way behind in last place. Khaled has managed to turn his dhs100,000 of fantasy cash into a healthy profit of dhs8,870, while Chalky was left crying into his saucer of milk yesterday after Dubai Refreshments’ shares went flat and cost the feline a fortune. Having come within a whisker of claiming second place in the standings, the cat has now chalked up a loss of dhs2,925.
Sitting in second place is our very own Business Reporter Tom Daly. Known to draw his inspiration from business gurus such as Robert Maxwell and Conrad Black, Tom says he is confident he will not be overtaken by any of his challengers, but admits he wasn’t quite prepared for Khaled’s phenomenal success and share picking ability.
Tom, whose father was a stockbroker back in the UK, said: “I started off very well but Dubai Investment and Union Properties have taken a big hit and their share prices have both dropped, eating into my meagre profits. “Finance can be a cruel world and I’m beginning to find out. I’m still beating the independent financial advisor, the cat and schoolgirl though, so it’s not all doom and gloom for me just yet.
“Khaled is on a very profitable streak at the moment and may be hard to catch. The thought of being licked by the cat would be just too humiliating to take.”
Speaking fluent Russian, French, German, Spanish and Scouse, Tom says he would be completely confident of beating all challengers on the London Stock Exchange or any other European exchange - unfortunately Tom we’re in the Middle East. Dubai Investment has so far dropped more than five per cent for Tom and Union Properties have lost more than one per cent.
“I think I need to move the goalposts and change the rules if I’m to win this contest,” he said. While insider trading, dodgy deals, false accounting and plundering pensioners’ accounts are all ideas Tom has toyed with to help overtake Khaled, it seems he can not be swayed from the path of righteousness.
“Let’s just see what happens,” he said. “Fortunes were not won in a day.”

WHO’S MAKING A PROFIT?

Khaled Kurdieh, CEO, Mashreq Securities
+ dhs8,870

Tom Daly, 7DAYS Business Reporter
+ dhs1,039

Graham Wolverson, Financial Advisor
+dhs710

Megna Kuveiji, Schoolgirl
-dhs472

Chalky, the Editor’s Cat
-dhs2,925

Read more UAE News on www.7days.ae
