Company Profile: British Airways (BA) is one of Europe's largest international airlines and a FTSE 100 company. BA's worldwide route network covers about 220 destinations in over 90 countries. The airline also carries freight and mail and ranks as one of the biggest cargo airlines in the world. The company's two main operating bases are at London's two main airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. BA is headquartered in Harmondsworth, UK. British Airways (BA) is one of the world's leading scheduled international passenger airlines. Its main activity is the operation of international and domestic scheduled passenger airline services. The airline's two main operating bases are at London's two largest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. London is one of the world's premier airport locations and serves a large geographical area, as well as a comparatively high proportion of high-yielding point-to-point business customers. London's Heathrow airport handles more international passengers than any other airport in the world. BA's most important overseas base is at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, where it leases a terminal building. The company is classed as the world's second largest international airline, but because its US competitors carry so many passengers on domestic flights, BA is ranked as the fifth biggest airline in the world in overall passenger carryings. The airline's fleet is comprised of around 310 aircraft, which is one of the largest fleets in Europe. The company's fleet includes Boeing 747s, Boeing 777s, Boeing 767s, Boeing 757s and Airbus A319/320s. BA carries freight and mail and ranks as one of the biggest cargo airlines in the world. The majority of its cargo is carried in the holds of passenger aircraft, with the rest on leased or part-chartered freighter aircraft. This allows BA to maximize the use of its scheduled route network to provide a worldwide cargo service. BA's scheduled route network forms the basis of its business and is one of the world's most extensive. BA serves about 220 destinations in over 90 countries. Including its franchises, subsidiaries and oneworld partners, the global network serves some 550 destinations in around 130 countries. BA is a co-founder of the Oneworld alliance, with AMR's American Airlines. Fellow members include American Airlines, LanChile, Swiss, Ireland's Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Spain's Iberia and Australia's Qantas. Besides Oneworld, British Airways has one-on-one relationships with a number of other airlines. It owns a 9% stake in Iberia. Other members of BA's franchise family include Loganair, GB Airways, Sun-Air of Scandinavia, British Mediterranean Airways, Comair of South Africa, and Regional Air of Kenya. These carriers carry passengers to destinations in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa, using BA flight numbers. The company also code-shares with a number of other airlines including , America West, Middle East-based Emirates, SN Brussels and Poland's LOT. BA CitiExpress operates regional, domestic and European services from 17 airports across the British Isles. The airline carries passengers on about 60 routes with a fleet of around 70 aircraft. BA also operates two principal frequent flyer programs. The company's Executive Club scheme allows travelers to accumulate BA Miles that entitle them to various awards, including free travel, while its Air Miles scheme allows companies to purchase Air Miles from BA for use in promotional incentives.
