DP World, which has been known in the past as DPI Terminals and Dubai Ports International, runs container terminal operations for major cargo ports throughout the world. DP World took its current name late in 2005 when the Dubai government merged DPI Terminals with the Dubai Ports Authority. The company is wholly owned by the Dubai government and manages port operations primarily in the Middle East and South Asia. DP World's planned acquisition of P&O, which would bring with it control of some ports in the US, has raised a storm of controversy among lawmakers in Washington. |
